This is APA Communications Director Gregg Overman with the APA Information Hotline for Tuesday, Feb. 7.
NEGOTIATIONS RESUME; APA BOARD OF DIRECTORS CONVENES: Negotiations between APA and AMR management resumed today, as reported in an earlier update from the APA Negotiating Committee. The negotiating update further noted that the National Mediation Board has rejoined our talks after a lengthy recess.
Also today, the APA Board of Directors convened at union headquarters to provide ongoing guidance to our negotiating team. The Board met in executive session with a series of subject-matter experts—including Safety Committee Chairman Captain Brian Beach, Pension Committee Chairman First Officer Mike MacMurdy and APA General Counsel Ed James—to discuss specific areas of focus in bargaining. The Board is scheduled to remain in session through midday Friday, Feb. 10, and will be returning to headquarters at regular intervals until negotiations conclude.
RUMOR CONTROL ON ALLIEDPILOTS.ORG: In response to the large number of rumors that are now circulating in connection with negotiations, the APA leadership opted to reinstitute the “Rumor Control” page on alliedpilots.org. We recommend that you visit “Rumor Control” periodically to help you distinguish fact from fiction where rumors are concerned. You may access “Rumor Control” via the red link located on the right-hand side of the members’ home page.
DFW DOMICILE FINAL NOMINATION ROUND RESULTS: The American Arbitration Association (AAA) has certified the results of the final nomination round in the election for DFW Domicile Chairman. Captain Tom Kachmar received 64 votes, Captain Mike Lindstrom received 24 votes, Captain Rusty McDaniels received 329 votes and Captain Tom Westbrook received 235 votes.
The three candidates who received the most votes—Captain Kachmar, Captain McDaniels and Captain Westbrook—will be placed on the election ballot. Candidates’ resumes will be mailed on Thursday, Feb. 16 and the election notice and ballots will be mailed on Thursday, Feb. 23. Ballots must be returned by mail and received by the AAA no later than 9 a.m. Central on Thursday, March 15. Election results will be announced later that same day.
Thank you for checking this hotline. We will continue providing you with regular updates as developments warrant.
