APA INFORMATION HOTLINE
This is APA Communications Director Gregg Overman with the APA Information Hotline for Thursday, Jan. 19.
APA BOARD OF DIRECTORS CAUCUS AND MEETING: During the past two days, the APA Board of Directors met in caucus outside the headquarters facility to discuss multiple restructuring-related issues. The Board then convened in formal session beginning at 9 a.m. today at APA offices in Fort Worth. Today’s agenda included a teleconference with APA General Counsel Ed James, who briefed the Board on the latest developments in AMR’s restructuring. Mr. James also fielded a number of restructuring-related questions from Board members.
Today’s agenda also included a briefing by Safety Committee Chairman Captain Brian Beach on various issues pertaining to the flat panel display system installed on some of the Boeing 757 and 767 aircraft in the American Airlines fleet. According to Captain Beach, 39 757s have been retrofitted thus far with the flat panel display system, with an eventual goal of 50 757s to be so equipped. Twenty five 767-300s have also been retrofitted, with a total of 58 767-300s slated for conversion.
Captain Beach also reported that APA representatives will participate for the first time in an upcoming Line Operational Safety Audit (LASO). APA’s Flight Operations Quality Assurance and Aviation Safety Action Partnership personnel will serve as auditors during the LASO. APA will receive and review all of the data produced by the LASO.
Also today, the Board voted to approve the following motions:
- Directing the Safety Committee to post the flat panel display system survey report in a downloadable format on the members’ side of alliedpilots.org. We will notify you once this report has been posted. This motion also stipulates that APA provide support to the pilot who recently filed a report with the Federal Aviation Administration, in accordance with the FAA’s Whistleblower Protection Program, regarding concerns about flat panel display system training.
- Approving revisions to APA’s fiscal year 2012 budget to support restructuring-related activity. These budget revisions augment funding for the Technical Analysis and Scheduling Committee, as well as funding for pension consulting and analysis and scope valuation.
- Affirming that APA shall not represent retired pilots during the restructuring process.
- Directing the APA Information Technology Department to “establish a subset of the APA Web site that allows appropriate access to retired former APA members as soon as possible. This access will include member lookup of other retirees and only other retirees, benefits information relevant to retirees, and access to a retiree Challenge and Response forum.”
- Waiving policy governing election procedures to appoint SFO Domicile Vice Chairman Captain Bill Boyd to the Negotiating Committee.
The Board spent the remainder of the day in executive session and recessed their meeting at around 5 p.m. Central.
That’s it for now. Thanks again for checking this hotline.
